Workshop facilitators Dr Antje Fiedler and Benjamin Fath are experienced researchers and educators in innovation, internationalisation, and business growth. 
 
They have over a decade experience in researching technology firms, including the German Mittelstand and New Zealand businesses, as well as teaching entrepreneurship, strategy, international business, and data science courses at the MBA, executive, and PhD level. 
 
They have designed and delivered close to 100 one-day workshop for New Zealand businesses.

Dr Antje Fiedler

Dr Antje Fiedler is a Senior Lecturer specializing in entrepreneurship and International Business. She is also the Associate Director of the New Zealand Asia Institute (NZAI). Her current teaching in the MBA and other postgraduate programs, including Executive Education. Antje has received two Excellence Awards for her Teaching at the University of Auckland Business School.

Antje has undertaken extensive research on the internationalisation of businesses with a particular focus on emerging Asia. She is passionate to conduct research that is relevant for practice. Her research has been informed courses at the Business School (University of Auckland) and practitioner workshops around New Zealand.

Ben Fath

Ben Fath is Senior Lecturer in Management and International Business in the Faculty of Business and Economics. His research has included the growth, internationalisation and innovation in New Zealand SMEs. He has been involved in a series of large-scale survey and interview studies that investigated management challenges in SMEs operating from small economies.

His recent research has been on how the economic re-emergence of Asia influences New Zealand SMEs. This has informed a number of courses at the Business school on research methods, entrepreneurship and competing in Asia; as well as practitioner workshops across the country.

Workshop 2 - Guest Speaker

For nearly 6 years Andrew has led the IP team in the Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) business of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare (FPH). This team of patent attorneys and IP engineers work closely with FPH’s product development engineers to capture and protect the world leading healthcare solutions created at FPH.

In addition to being involved in multi-jurisdictional enforcement of IP, Andrew manages freedom to operate, patent oppositions and IP reporting for the OSA business.

Prior to joining FPH, Andrew spent 14 years in private practice at a large Australian patent attorney firm.

Dr Hartley Atkinson together with his wife, Marree, founded AFT Pharmaceuticals in September 1997 with startup capital of NZ$50,000. Today the business is based in Takapuna, Auckland and has operations in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Ireland with just under 100 staff in total. Licensing and distribution agreements are in place in over 100 countries around the world with launches and sales to date in 51 countries

AFT additionally conducts research and development work including clinical studies around the world including USA, UK, Mexico, Jordan, Europe, Taiwan and Australia and New Zealand in Pain, Dermatology, Gastroenterology and Drug Delivery.
