Auckland Council’s vision has evolved from the Auckland Plan 2050 vision of making Auckland “the world’s most liveable city” to the more concise current framing of creating “an Auckland that is beautiful, thriving and safe for all Aucklanders.”
In practical terms, the vision is about:
A beautiful Auckland – protecting and enhancing the natural environment, parks, coastline and heritage.
A thriving Auckland – supporting economic growth, jobs, investment, infrastructure and opportunities for people and businesses.
A safe and healthy Auckland – creating communities where people can live well and feel secure.
A well-connected Auckland – improving transport, infrastructure and connections between communities.
Auckland's Māori identity – recognising Māori identity and culture as an important point of difference for Auckland.
Inclusive prosperity – ensuring that the benefits of Auckland's growth are shared across communities rather than benefiting only some Aucklanders.
Sustainable growth – accommodating population growth while protecting the environment and improving resilience to climate change.
The Auckland Plan 2050 identifies the major challenges as population growth, sharing the benefits of growth, and reducing environmental degradation.
