NZ’s TIN200 Tech Companies Set for Another Year of Double-Digit Global Growth in 2026
Technology Investment Network (TIN) is forecasting another year of double-digit global
revenue growth in 2026 for the TIN200 – New Zealand’s 200 largest globally focused
technology companies. The TIN200 includes NZ-originated companies operating across
ICT, High-tech Manufacturing and Biotech, delivering products and services into
international markets.
In 2025, the TIN200 generated combined revenues of NZ$20 billion, with 77% derived from
offshore markets, reinforcing the sector’s position as one of New Zealand’s most
significant sources of offshore income. This growing offshore contribution reflects the
increasing role technology companies are playing in New Zealand’s international growth
story. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Chief Executive, Sanchia Yonge says “The
continued growth of the TIN200 is great news for New Zealand. With more than threequarters of the sector’s revenue coming from exports, technology companies are a key
driver of our country’s economic growth. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise is supporting
this growth by identifying ambitious, high-growth businesses early and helping them
expand internationally, creating the next generation of globally successful exporters.”
Strong Growth Momentum Continues
In 2025, the TIN200 increased revenues by NZ$1.8 billion (10%), highlighting the continued
expansion of New Zealand’s global technology exporters. Growth among larger companies
has been particularly notable. The ten highest revenue growth companies in 2025
increased combined revenues by NZ$1.4 billion – more than triple the NZ$400 million
growth recorded by the top ten growth companies in 2015.
This trend reflects the increasing maturity of the sector, with more New Zealand
technology companies reaching meaningful global scale. BNZ Technology Industries
Development Manager Josh Starkey sees this growing maturity as an important
development for the wider New Zealand economy. “The TIN Report highlights the ongoing
success of New Zealand’s technology sector. We’re impressed by the number of
companies moving beyond startup phase to become globally competitive businesses.
From BNZ’s perspective, this growing maturity reinforces the importance of Technology
Industries to the New Zealand economy. We are proud to support many of our country’s
technology companies as they grow, innovate, and expand into international markets,”
says Starkey.
Growth Drivers Despite Global Uncertainty
While ongoing global political and economic uncertainty continues to create challenges,
several factors are supporting continued expansion for New Zealand’s globally focused
technology companies.
- Market disruption creates opportunity: Periods of change often favour innovative
companies as industries reassess traditional solutions. - Currency advantage: The long-term decline of the NZ dollar against key trading
currencies (USD, AUD, Euro and RMB) continues to support export
competitiveness. - Greater scale across the sector: The number of TIN200 companies with revenues
exceeding NZ$200 million has quadrupled over the past decade, allowing
companies to diversify across markets and reduce concentration risk. Furthermore,
the number of TIN200 companies with annual revenues exceeding NZ$500 million
has doubled over the past decade. - Expansion in emerging markets: China and India now account for approximately
43% of global GDP growth, with many TIN companies reporting strong growth
across Asia as well as Europe. - US market resilience: Although tariffs present some headwinds, favourable
currency movements are helping offset much of the impact for exporters. - Investment recovery: Technology investment strengthened again in 2025, with
early-stage funding reaching record levels, reaching a record $467 million,
representing a 34% increase, and significant capital flowing into medtech and
cleantech infrastructure. - More funding options available: Companies now have access to a broader mix of
equity and debt funding, alongside growing allocations to technology investment
funds. - Evolving business models: Many high-growth companies are increasingly adopting
scalable, recurring-revenue models across sectors such as payments, data
services, medical consumables and energy transition technologies.
The strengthening investment environment is another important part of this growth story,
with New Zealand’s startup ecosystem continuing to demonstrate its ability to generate
significant value from relatively modest levels of capital.
“Based on the Dealroom 2026 report, New Zealand startups are among the most capitalefficient in the OECD.
Our ecosystem has created world-leading value from a modest capital base.
The VC ecosystem has clear momentum and confidence is growing.
The clearest levers left are broadening the top of the funnel of startups entering the pipeline,
and building deeper pools of growth-stage capital, so that more of our best founder stories
scale and stay here for longer. These are the gaps NZGCP exists to help close,” says
Jacques Richter, Investment Director at NZ Growth Capital Partners.
Together, these conditions provide a strong foundation for continued growth across the
technology sector. “We expect TIN200 revenues to continue their strong growth in 2026,”
says Narjis Adnan, Head of Research at TIN. “More companies are reaching meaningful
global scale, creating a stronger and more resilient technology sector with the capacity to
compete and grow across international markets.”
Maintaining access to the right talent will therefore be critical to sustaining this growth.
“The growth forecast for the TIN200 is another strong signal of the opportunity ahead for
New Zealand’s technology sector, which continues to punch above its weight globally.
Sustained growth is driven not only by innovation, but also by attracting, developing and
retaining the talented people who help turn ambitious ideas into world-class businesses,”
says Kerrie Gregory, General Manager at Absolute IT.
A Historic Opportunity
As the global economy shifts away from fossil fuels and adapts to changing trade patterns,
New Zealand’s technology exporters are well positioned to take advantage of emerging
opportunities.
“The world economy is going through a major transition. That creates a significant
opportunity for globally ambitious New Zealand technology companies to step forward,
lead in emerging sectors, and strengthen their position in global markets,” says TIN
Managing Director Greg Shanahan.
