Kia ora koutou,
Only three weeks until Techweek! We look forward to seeing our technology community out and about at events. Our managing director Greg Shanahan will be attending the Hi-Tech Awards Gala Dinner, and we are delighted to be nominated for the Consult Recruitment Best Contribution to the NZ Tech Sector Award. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for all our nominated members and TINWire readers!
We hope you have also registered to join us at our 2024 NZ Fintech Report Launch, the previous day, on Thursday 23 May. The report is set to be an indispensable resource for those in the fintech ecosystem, with expert commentary from leading lights in the field and some very attractive data packages. Here’s a sneak peek below, with analysis from our Head of Research, Alex Dickson.
“A perfect storm of digital disruption, record low interest rates, lockdowns, and open banking converged to fuel record levels of global fintech investment in 2021. New Zealand also saw deal numbers and volumes grow, with offshore investors contributing $106m of total annual investment. The country reached peak investment of $186m in 2022, with another $115 raised in nine deals led by offshore interests.”
“Amidst a deteriorating macro-economic climate, the global tide began to turn in 2022, and investment has since retreated below pre-pandemic levels. Locally, total VC and Angel investment fell a steep 88% or $163.6m in 2023 as deal volume halved. Deal value also contracted over the reporting period, with the average yield of early (pre-series A) and later-stage (series A+) deals sliding 57% and 92% respectively.”
There are, however, compelling reasons to believe fintech investment will rebound. For those insights and more, please join us at the launch of the report. There are under 30 tickets remaining, so please book without delay.
