Kia ora koutou, welcome to the third edition of TINWIRE for 2023,

April is an exciting month at TIN as we are kicking off our annual events calendar with the launch of the 2022 Auckland Technology Sector Insights Report. Commissioned by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, this report paints the picture of how Tāmaki Makaurau’s tech export sector has performed as we come into a post-Covid world.

While Auckland is our biggest and most active tech export region, tech exporters outside of our largest city also saw great success as reported in the 2022 TIN Report. Otago/Southland recorded the highest year on year growthof all the regions (+26.1%, +$103m ) followed by the Central North IIsland (+14.9%, +$44m), Wellington/Manawatū (+12.7%,+$417m), Canterbury/Upper South Island (+12%, +$119m) and the Waikato (+8.3%, +$93m).

We are delighted to profile three highly successful TIN member tech companies from Wellington (DataTorque), Tauranga (Bluelab) and Dunedin (ADInstruments)in this edition. Take a look under the hood of these front-running firms and discover how each operates within their local tech hub.

Earlier this month we were honoured to be nominated for 'Best Contribution to the NZ Tech Sector' at this year’s NZ Hi-Tech Awards and were thrilled how many of our TIN members are well represented amongst the nominees;ZeroJet(Hi-Tech Startup Company of the Year, and Most Innovative Hi-Tech Hardware Product),PushPay(Hi-tech Company of the Year),Vista(Hi-Tech Company of the Year) andOrion Health(Most Innovative Hi-Tech Service).

Congratulationsto all nominated, we will see you in Christchurch!

Looking ahead to the month of May, TIN is excited to bring our 'Succeeding in North Asia' workshops to Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Hamilton. These interactive workshops, developed in collaboration with theNorth Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence (North Asia Cape), focus on key lessons to succeed in North Asia -, specifically in the areas of innovation, leveraging eco-systems and IP. Seats are strictly limited, so secure yours today by registering here.
Finally, we’d encourage you to mark your calendars for this year’s launch of the 2023 Technology Investment Report on Friday 19 May at Commercial Bay in Auckland. This year’s report will provide what is arguably the most comprehensive quantitative analysis of domestic tech investment to date; and features commentary from some of New Zealand’s most prolific investors.
